⏩ The Gloucester Start: Wednesday October 1st
Gloucester's house prices are county's cheapest | Light shows coming to two major attractions | Things to do in Gloucester
Good morning, welcome to Wednesday’s Start. It’s a very quiet one today with not much news being covered in the city in the last 24 hours, but here’s everything I’ve found. There’s no edition tomorrow as I’m away with work, back on Friday.
⛅ Today’s weather: Sunny spells mixed with cloud cover, 19C at its warmest.
🏡 Gloucester’s GL1 postcode is the cheapest area in the county to buy a house, according to latest property sales data. Homes there sold for an average of almost £202,000 over the last 12 months - more than £65,000 cheaper than the next lowest area, Cinderford. - Gloucestershire Live (interactive)
💡 Gloucester Cathedral will be turned into a stunning sound and light show later this month. Poppy Fields by Luxmuralis will immerse the historic building for a week starting on October 17th. Tickets are £9.50 for adults. - Gloucester Cathedral
🧗 There’s another light show coming to a different attraction for October half-term at the end of the month too. The 270 Climbing Park will host Glow in the Park sessions where families and thrill-seekers can tackle the ropes course under the cover of darkness. - Gloucestershire Live
👓 The official opening of Gloucester’s new Vision Express took place yesterday. It’s opened in Eastgate Street in the former Co-op Travel Shop unit. The small ceremony also saw town crier Alan Myatt back on duty after a spell in hospital. - Gloucester BID
🚨 Two men robbed a 15-year-old boy of his e-bike in the Lidl car park in Eastern Avenue. It happened on Sunday evening, police are appealing for witnesses. - Gloucester News Centre
🚓 Three cars were entered and had items stolen close to one another on the same day. It happened in Severn Road, the Castlemeads car park and Barbican Way across several hours on Sunday. - Your Community Alerts

📌 The NHS in Gloucestershire is launching the next phase of its annual flu vaccination campaign this week. People aged 65 and over, those with long-term health conditions, and health and social care workers are now eligible for a flu jab. People aged 75 and over and those who are immunosuppressed are also eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine from today, October 1st. This follows the earlier rollout of the flu vaccine to children and pregnant women, which began on September 1st. Full details here.
📌 New pop-up shop Weirdsmith opens in Westgate Street today at 10am, featuring arts and crafts from local producers.
📌 A new sketching group, planned for the first Saturday of each month, starts this weekend. It’s just an informal meet up 10.30am-12pm. The plan is to meet outside the UoG city campus (maybe get a coffee from the March Hare) then find some places to sit/stand and sketch the city of Gloucester.
