⏩ The Gloucester Start: Wednesday June 25th
'Greater Gloucester' questioned | Water leak closes road | Attacker jailed
Good morning, welcome to Wednesday’s Start. Here’s everything I’ve found for today’s bulletin.
⛅ Today’s weather: Overcast this morning, brightening up and fewer windy gusts to contend with.
🗳️ The idea of a ‘Greater Gloucester’ authority as part of devolution plans is only on the table because of the city council leader’s long wait to take charge of the authority, which now faces being abolished. That was the criticism levelled at Jeremy Hilton by opposition councillors who questioned the creation of a £35,000-a-year communications post. - Gloucester News Centre, via the Local Democracy Reporting Service
🚧 More than 700 people have signed a petition seeking to open more routes out of Kingsway at busy times during months of A38 slip road roadworks. Quedgeley Town Council has proposed the idea and wants the county council to act to ease congestion. - BBC Gloucestershire
❌ Southgate Street was being closed last night to deal with a burst water main. Gloucestershire Highways said the stretch ‘between Westgate Island and Gloucester Quays’ needed to be closed. There hasn’t been a new update so far this morning. - Gloucestershire Roads
↪️ It’s one of multiple leaks or other water-related issues currently flagged on a Severn Trent map in and around Gloucester. ‘Significant’ water has been leaking down Tuffley Avenue since at least last Thursday too. - Punchline Gloucester
⚖️ A violent attacker who stamped on and then punched a woman, causing her ear drums to burst, has been jailed. Redwan Karim, 31, from Regent Street was sentenced to three years and six months in prison. - Gloucestershire Live
🍅 The former Budgens grocery store in Barton Street is set to become a Morrisons Daily. A planning application for new signage has revealed the plans. - Punchline Gloucester
↪️ Another planning application for new signs suggests Vision Express wants to open its fourth store or concession in the city, at the former Co-op travel shop in Eastgate Street. - Punchline Gloucester
🚨 Police are asking people to look out for a missing man who may have boarded a train to Cardiff. Aiden, 24, was last seen in Barnwood on Tuesday. - Gloucestershire Live
