🧀 Cheese rolling champion Ariel Dempsey returned to Cooper’s Hill this week to belatedly collect her missing prize. The PhD student won the uphill race but didn’t get a cheese on the day - initially feared stolen, it was actually left in a volunteer’s fridge. - BBC Gloucestershire
🎭 The full programme of events centred around the Moomins kicks off in Gloucester next weekend, with a floating installation at the Docks among the highlights. There are film screenings this week at Gloucester Guildhall too. - Gloucester Guildhall
👑 Gloucester Cathedral features in a new documentary about the ‘worst King of England’, Edward II, where he’s buried. It’s available to stream via History Hit. - SoGlos
❤️ Two contestants on the latest series of Love Island have Gloucester links. Ben, a private hire driver from the city, and Dejon, who played 17 times over two spells with Gloucester City AFC, will be on screens from Monday on the ITV show. - Gloucestershire Live.
📽️ Windrush Day, commemorating the stories and impact of the Windrush Generation in the county, will be marked at Gloucestershire Libraries thanks to £11,000 in funding. It’s on June 22nd and includes the creation of a new film, as well as workshops and activities. - Gloucester News Centre
🗣️ Minster for Justice Sir Nic Dakin has been invited to Gloucester to see in-person the work the likes of Young Gloucestershire and the Nelson Trust are doing to break the cycle of reoffending. 📌 ‘POP-UP’, a contemporary art exhibition by eight professional Gloucester artists, will appear from 7 to 14th June at 21 Westgate Street, Gloucester (Cathedral Quarter). The gallery will be open 10am - 5pm daily (Sunday 10am to 4pm). This diverse exhibition will include paintings, sculpture and glasswork by Joanne Callaghan, Deborah Harrison, Jane Foot, Gilly Hill, David Finch, Sue Mortimer, Cathy Steed and John Steed.
