Six storey Docks building plan | Cycle Spine latest | Things to do in Gloucester
Good morning, welcome to Wednesday’s Start. These daily bulletins are curated and produced every morning entirely by hand to give you the best possible overview of what’s happening in Gloucester. If you find them useful, please remember to tell friends or hit share - word of mouth really helps. Here’s everything I could find for today’s edition.
☀️ Today’s weather: Heading towards heatwave territory again with temperatures in the high 20s and getting hotter over the coming days.
🏗️ Plans are being drawn up for a ‘missing piece’ of Gloucester Docks that would see 141 apartments built in a new six-storey building. The West Quay proposal is for a plot of land close to Llanthony Lift Bridge and Severn Road. Public views are being sought before a planning application is submitted. - Gloucestershire Live
↪️ The proposals have their own website, where you can view the details and submit views.
⚽ Fears of a serious or even fatal accident have been raised by Quedgeley Town Council in warning children to stop scaling a metal fence in order to access an astroturf pitch. Respondents were divided, some suggesting the pitch should be made freely available to youngsters. - Gloucestershire Live
🚆 Work to minimise the risk of landslips will mean rail services between Gloucester and South Wales face three weeks of disruption from July 27th. Replacement bus services will be laid on. - Rail Advent
🚛 A new Amazon logistics centre is close to opening in Barnwood. It’s been four years since the plans were revealed and more new jobs than originally expected are likely to be created by its arrival. - Gloucestershire Live
🚲 Work on the Cycle Spine through Gloucester city centre is making ‘good progress’ but is on hold at the junction of Northgate Street and St Aldate Street while the City Campus is completed. The Cheltenham Road stretch has reached ‘practical completion’. - Gloucestershire Cycle Spine newsletter
