⏩ The Gloucester Start: Tuesday January 14th
Tyre slasher wanted | Critical incident over | Folk Trail returns
Good morning and welcome to Tuesday’s Start, which today features for the first time the work of a new independent community journalism blog covering the county, Call Me Will. Local journalism needs a lot of support at the moment, so please check it out.
🚑 The critical incident at Gloucestershire Royal and Cheltenham General Hospitals has been declared over, but ‘significant pressures’ remain. People are still being asked to consider alternatives to attending emergency departments unless it is a life-threatening condition or serious injury. - Gloucestershire Live
🐄 Efforts to get people to reduce their carbon footprint by, among other things, swapping cow’s milk for almond or other alternatives has annoyed dairy farmers. The county council campaign, Swaps in Seconds, is about making small changes. Wholly Gelato, based in Elmore and with a shop in the Food Dock, is among those to criticise it. - BBC Gloucestershire
🦔 Brockworth’s Hedgehog Rescue is 10 years old and busier than ever, helping almost 1,000 of the prickly little creatures last year. - Call Me Will - this is a new Substack by Will Luker, who was formerly Gloucestershire Live’s community reporter and is continuing his journalism independently. Please do subscribe and share his work.
☁️ Today’s weather: Warmer than of late with temperatures almost approaching double figures. Cloudy for much of the afternoon with misty conditions later on.
🎻 Gloucester Folk Trail returns next month with multiple venues across the city hosting live music, workshops and more. - Gloucester News Centre
🔍 Recognise any of this ☝️? Games consoles, electronic equipment, power tools and more have been seized by police and a 28-year-old man arrested on suspicion of theft. Police are keen to trace the rightful owners of the goods. - Gloucester News Centre
👮 A misconduct hearing continues today into a Gloucestershire Constabulary officer who began a relationship with a 15-year-old girl which later became sexual. Detective Constable Nicholas Henry was in his mid-20s at the time and indulged in a ‘rape fantasy’ with the teenager, the hearing heard yesterday. - Gloucestershire Live
🚴 Police want to speak to this man ☝️ after a couple were verbally abused and had a car tyre slashed before the offender, who was carrying an Uber Eats delivery bag, cycled away. It happened in the Aldi car park in Clifton Road on December 28th. - Gloucestershire Constabulary
