⏩ The Gloucester Start: Thursday July 17th
Dehydration worries at school | Enforcement boost for council | Things to do in Gloucester
Good morning, welcome to Thursday’s Start. Here’s today’s edition.
☁️ Today’s weather: Cloud cover for much of the day but dry and warm.
🥵 Pupils at Barnwood Park School have been displaying ‘signs of dehydration’ through the recent heatwave amid criticism from some parents that they’ve had to continue wearing their full uniform. - Gloucestershire Live
❌ Claims that the Eastgate and King’s Walk shopping centres are unsafe are ‘incorrect’, says Gloucester City Council, which owns both. Defects including alleged non-compliant fire doors have been raised by Councillor Alastair Chambers, who said he’s been accused by the authority of scaremongering. - Gloucestershire Live
💷 At least £50,000 will be invested to boost the city council’s enforcement capabilities. A new combined team of 12 staff will be formed to ‘take to task’ anyone breaking regulations in areas like enviro-crime, planning and housing. - Punchline Gloucester
🚶♀️ More detailed figures behind the rise in visitor numbers seen in the first five months of this year have been published. Gloucester’s 1.6% year-on-year increase equates to 8,337,564 people coming to the city. - Punchline Gloucester
🤝 New city engagement officers, part of a two-year, £200,000 city council initiative, aim to take control of antisocial behaviour ‘from start to finish’. It’s in line with the council’s corporate plan to ensure people feel safe in the city centre. - BBC Gloucestershire
💡 An immersive light and sound installation is coming to Gloucester Cathedral in the autumn. Poppy Fields will commemorate the first and second world wars and share a message of peace. - SoGlos
