I’ve lived and worked in Gloucester (the UK one for the avoidance of doubt) since 2011 and I love the city.
The Gloucester Start is all about getting local news, things to do and community activity to you in a simple, digestible, reliable, noise-free format.
There are dozens of articles, events and pieces of information published about our city every day, from all sorts of different sites, groups and forums. My aim is simply to get the best of it to you in one place, as a starting point for your day.
I’m building a Community Noticeboard - powered by you - into as many bulletins as possible to highlight local events, clubs, appeals and anything else that needs a platform to help it succeed.

You won’t be getting bias, opinions or anything not directly relevant to Gloucester - just a summary of what’s being reported about where we are and a link to find out more if you want to.

Absolutely. If you’re feeling generous and want to help out, you can upgrade to a monthly or annual paid subscription but, for now, everything we publish will be available without charge - and that will always be the case for the daily news digests.

Who am I and why have I launched The Gloucester Start?
I’m Tom Gibbon, and The Gloucester Start is a one-man-band run by me and only me. I’ve lived and worked in Gloucester for well over a decade and am proud to be raising my family here.
I cut my teeth as a journalist with The Citizen, reporting on everything from cats stuck up trees to the long-term impact of the 2007 floods, was news editor there for a while and became head of online when Gloucestershire Live was born. All of which has given me the privilege of having a front-row seat through much of Gloucester’s recent history.
I might work away from journalism now - and I’m certainly not blind to the fact that it’s facing some significant challenges - but I still believe it’s something we should cherish. Good local reporting is a vital piece of a functioning community and it’s my goal with The Gloucester Start to bring it to you as simply as possible.
